2nd Year (0ptions Portfolio) Fashion Buying

2nd year!!!
The Beginning of New Beginnings

Its been an incredible first year, finally getting things right and done.
In this module ( options portfolio) i have chosen the following topics:

1) Fashion Buying
2) Styling
3) Fashion Trend-Forecast

We had to write a report on the journey as a buyer...here it goes!

       FASHION   BUYING   REPORT

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO ME?
For me, ‘Fashion Buying’ is not just a career option; it is the essence of having a knack in trend forecasting the future of the chic billion dollar empire. It’s the potential environment for lost style insiders to showcase the power of not only predicting ‘clothes in a multi-brand store’ as the common man says but giving the form of newness in the hearts of shopaholics that are hungry for being at their best in the trendy world!
Fashion buying maybe an easy topic for the pros, but it isn’t a cakewalk at any stage. A fashion buyer should solely posses the qualities of enthusiasm, a really good stamina for the running around, the power of imagination and negotiation to pertain the unmet needs of the customers, the versatility which is very importantly required to be an all rounder, interpersonal and organizational skills to help balance the decisive act between the retailer/ designer and the consumer. As they say, ‘We can’t clap with one hand.’ In the same way a fashion buyer is a person who has to not only see his/her benefits but also see the area of gain which a consumer gets so that the respective  product will be sold and the company will not incur any loss.

THE COMPANY
           The firm that I would like to open would be named as D.L.A Enterprises. The vision and mission has been made solely looking at the future of the company. They are as follows;
Vision Statement: “To establish D.L.A Enterprises as the most respected brand as a linking pin between respected brands across the globe and end users.”
Mission Statement: “Keeping the brand updated with all the trends and to be distinctively known by the quality we provide.”
THE TREND FORECAST FOR A/W 2013
BLACK  and its  family colours ( blue, grey etc) is
predicted to be in vogue this autumn/winter 2013
The cuts in demand at the moment are the ones that
accentuate the body shape, give length to the body and
highlight the features. The women seek design that has
details and modern architectures. This season is projected
to have 40% more sales than the rest of the year because
of the festivals like Christmas, diwali, eid.

The target group of women shopping junkies that I have selected is between the years of 23-30. Why, u may ask? Not only because that is the main earning stage of a person, that, maybe one of the factors, but those are the budding years of a person where they want to be polished and realize their taste in clothes, i.e. their signature style that they are comfortable in as well the age group is prone to experimenting. Sometimes we can’t see through the mirror completely even though we know what we want. That’s when we intervene and see what your likes are and dislikes and help you out accordingly. What would look perfect with which accessory? Yes! We are tangible that way! The areas of preference are the cosmopolitan and metropolitan cities for the sophisticated women. Only the stylish city girl would wear the perfectly rated dress for her affairs. The outfits are not only worn just for an occasion, that’s the point. The brand senses who you really are as a person more than making just a random buy which I should not deny to an extent, but we legit give you quality! Period!
Sometimes I wonder how my love for fashion buying totally took over my fetish for designing. Yes I cannot ever get rid of that. My journey as a buyer definitely made new opportunities bloom like flower in my garden. New opportunities came with new ideas; new ideas came with brainstorming with new people. And that vicious circle never ends.

THE GARMENT
The garment that I have chosen is made by the designer Sneha Patil. A very young and talented persona she carries off. Why her among all the successful brands?
Yes, her because she doesn’t have a standard style, she understands trends; she knows what’s selling in the market. The girl has done her research well. The fabric quality isn’t the regular. Mark my words. The finishing of the garment is incredible. The richness of the color brings out the chic life-style  of women to  not only celebrate the occasion she wears it to but mainly celebrating herself as an independent lady. The trend that she has followed is of autumn/winter 2013. The colour used on this dress is the perfect midnight blue with pearl and lace detailing. This dress is also available in the shades of maroon, grey and black. The style inspired for this dress is that of the 50’s era. As the past trends come back to life, it is my job to tell you that’s another reason why this dress is a raging hit. The fit of the garment is perfect, not too broad on the waist so that you float in it and not too tight so that u can breathe, but just right!  The target group is ladies of the age band of 23-30 years. The income group Rs 50,000/- or more per month. Purchasing power is above Rs10, 000/-. The purchasing power for this age group maybe from the family background, a gift or job. Another point is the different kinds of drivers of sales used for this garment. This dress can be worn for any special occasion, an award function; movie premier, birthdays, weddings, new year party, to the clubs, Broadcast messages on BBM, Facebook page promotions, during Christmas & Diwali discount and special offers are the various ways of selling the garment.
Brands like topshop, warehouse, vero moda, forever 21 have similar styles like this dress. This garment would range upto 10,000-15,000/- depending on the season.
After I spoke to a lot of my lady friends, about 85% of them said that they would be interested in buying the garment. They call it a ‘lucrative buy’. That sigh of relief after listening to them gave me the assurance that my hard work has paid off. This gives me the impetus to be more creative and satisfy the fashion craving of my prospective clients.
As I conclude, this journey has been extremely wonderful and will pursue this job which has now become a part of me as one of my strengths and will look forward for new doors to open which will help me to grow!

                       THANK YOU
