Final Garment & Self Critic

This was my final garment....

sooo...thats proud me, all happy with my garment.

WEEK 1 : 

Our first module began in the month of September  We learnt most of the basics in this week like the basic bodice,sleeve and skirt. We made toil fits on the muslin so that we would understand how the cloth would drape on the body form. this week was absolutely fun -filled.

 

WEEK 2 :

This week we learnt two methods of dart manipulation like the pivot method and the slash and spread method. After we got our assignment,we were expected to 'stitch' sitting on the machines. Little that we knew that we would actually enjoy the tough part. Under the guidance of our excellent faculty, we overcame our fears. This really built up our confidence.

 

WEEK 3 :

We started stitching properly from this week. After we got our assignment, we took time to complete it but the final construction was good. We even learnt the sleeve adaptations. It was complicated in the beginning, but we got a hang of it.

 

WEEK 4 :

This week we learnt our skirt adaptations. Everything that we learnt has been tough, because its a new concept to us, but we conquered it.

 

WEEK 5 :

 We learnt our fasteners like the hook and eye, press buttons, Velcro etc.

 

WEEK 6 :

This week we had to stitch a skirt and top. It was really exciting, because it was our first outfit. Our faculty was so paint with us and taught us so well.

 

WEEK 7 :

This was the creative week. We studied history of fashion. We had to make a visual diary taking inspiration from architecture,food, paintings, art, basically anything, and we had to take inspirations and make something in our visual diary. We also had to do a comparative study and write an essay between the east and the west. The year that i chose was the 1970's. This research helped us in so many different way showing us the difference how fashion evolved back then and now. 

 

WEEK 8 :

We were asked to write an essay on the research we did of that particular year. We had to choose 5 topics as inspiration and 1 topic would be selected. My topic was POP ART. We then made 30 illustrations first on paper and then we made the garment.

 

               This module was definitely a challenge as everything was absolutely new to us. The concept of design, took us time to actually realize the various aspects of it. i feel that i have fared very well for a beginner, all thanks to our faculty.
